Selena Gomez Reflects on Golden Globes Nomination and Finding Community in Hollywood
Actress-singer Selena Gomez, who recently received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress, is embracing her success while shedding light on feelings of isolation in Hollywood, reports People magazine.
Speaking about her nomination, Gomez expressed her gratitude:
“I’m overwhelmed, very, very honored, and grateful. I can’t wait to see what happens.”
At a luncheon in Los Angeles hosted at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, Selena was seated next to fellow nominee Ariana Grande. Both stars, who began their careers as child actors—Gomez in Disney Channel's Wizards of Waverly Place and Grande in Nickelodeon’s Victorious—have become favorites this awards season.
During her keynote speech, Selena emphasized the importance of finding community:
“I know firsthand how isolating this industry will feel at times. But moments like this, in rooms like this, talking to all these amazing women reminds me that I’m not alone, and we aren’t alone,” she shared.
Seated at Gomez’s table were luminaries such as Amy Adams, Pamela Anderson, Awkwafina, Gal Gadot, Rita Wilson, Mila Kunis, and Olivia Wilde, highlighting the camaraderie among women in Hollywood.
Selena also shared her approach to staying positive amidst negativity:
“It’s humor for me. I know people say it’s a defense mechanism, but I think it’s a great distraction from the noise. Just having a laugh with friends or doing something lighthearted brings me a bit of joy.”
For young women navigating the challenges of the entertainment industry, Selena extended a heartfelt message:
“To the young women watching us, you are heard, you are seen, and your perspective matters deeply. If you ever feel lonely at any event, I’m usually on my phone playing some weird game. Just come up to me, and I’ll be happy to chat,” she said with a grin.
Closing her speech, Selena reflected on the importance of unity and collective progress:
“When we share and stand together, we create a ripple effect far beyond our own lives. Events like this celebrate our achievements but also remind us of the work we still have to do.”
