3rd Edition of Madhumeha Panchayat Awareness and Question answer Session

BERHAMPUR, 17/1 (Abhijit Kar): Diabetes is increasing in prevalence across the globe. Indians tend to get affected with Diabetes and its complications at least a decade earlier than western counterparts. To make people aware of various aspects of Diabetes and dispel the prevailing myths in the society spread by social media, today Swasthya Sadan, Berhampur has organized 3rd edition of Madhumeha Panchayat, an awareness, question and answer session for general public at Sanskruti Bhavan, Hilpatna Berhampur. Dr Sunil Kumar Kota, Consultant Endocrinologist was the moderator for the session, where Dr Bijay Panda, Chief District Medical & Public Health Officer, Ganjam was invited as the Chief Guest. Sri Sangram Panda, Administrator from MKCG Medical College, Smt Jammula Jayalakshmi, Chairperson, Roland Group of institutes; Dr Prakash Ch Patra, Senior physician and Prof Uma Shankar Mishra, Head, Department of General Medicine, Sri Jagannath Medical College & Hospital, Puri graced the event as guests of honor. Dr Sruti Jammula, Director, Roland Group of institutes anchored the event and introduced the guests to the august audience. 

Dr Bijay Panda raised the concern about rising prevalence of Diabetes and other non-communicable diseases calling for Lifestyle modification as a preventive strategy. Sri Sangram Panda called for action at Govt level to pick Diabetes at an early stage for better treatment and avoidance of complications. Smt Jammula Jayalaksmi stressed upon the fact that no one is immune from lifestyle disorders and everyone should be careful about same. Dr P. C. Patra and Dr Uma Shankar Mishra shared their vast experience of dealing with people having Diabetes. All the Revered dignitaries thanked Dr Sunil Kota for his unending and noble endeavors in educating the masses about Diabetes, especially in dispelling the myths. Following the inauguration ceremony, an expert panel of 12 doctors adorned the stage, question and answer session with general public ensued. The panel consisted of experts in Diabetes and its allied specialties including Endocrinologist Dr Sunil Kota, Physicians Dr Prakash Ch Patra, Dr Uma Shankar Mishra, Dr Nihar Ranjan Sahoo, Dr Jitendra Panigrahy; Neurologist Dr Anand Sastry, Cardiologist Dr Badri Dandapani, Ophthalmologist Dr Pravin Subudhi, Psychiatrist Dr Tikina Behera, Orthopedician Dr Gopal Chandra Patra, Dentist Dr Bibhukesh Panigrahy. 

Two experts from Apollo Hospital Bhubaneswar too joined the program namely Dr Satyajit Sahu, Cardiac Surgeon and Dr Jaya Prakash Pani, Gynecologist and Robotic Surgery Specialist. All total more than 250 people from various walks of life joined the session and engaged with the panel of expert doctors for more than 2 and half hours clarifying their queries on various aspects of Diabetes. Among others, Dr Gunamani Jena, Dr Sanat Patro from Roland Institute of Technology, Sri B. N. Pattanaik, Principal, Delhi Public Senior Secondary School, Sri Debanand Dash from Kranti, Dr B. V. V. Ravi Kumar and Dr Niranjan Patro, from Roland Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences were present in the audience. Dr Sagar Tripathy lauded all the experts for giving their valuable time for this awareness program. Mrs Manita Dash requested Dr Kota for making this program annual one with involvement of more experts and people for betterment of the society. Lastly Smt Usha Rani Mahapatra from Anwesha Kala concluded the session by profusely thanking Dr Sunil Kota and his team of volunteers for such a wonderful organization.
