Kapil Sharma and Rajiv Thakur's Major Financial Struggle While Buying Their First Flat in Mumbai

Kapil Sharma and Rajiv Thakur, two of the most beloved comedic figures in India, are known for their incredible chemistry both on and off the stage. While their professional lives have been nothing short of successful, their journey to settle down in Mumbai was not as smooth as one might think. In fact, the duo faced significant financial struggles when they decided to buy their first flat in the city.

During a recent appearance on DostCast's YouTube channel, Rajiv Thakur shared a humorous yet eye-opening story about the duo’s first attempt at homeownership in Mumbai. He revealed that, being new to the city, they didn’t even consider the idea of taking a home loan. They pooled their savings and managed to accumulate Rs 50 lakh, but when they went house-hunting, they quickly realized that even a modest 2-BHK in Andheri was far beyond their reach, with prices hovering around Rs 75 lakh.

"We couldn’t afford that, so we decided to head to Malad," Rajiv recalled. The duo found a flat they liked, but it was still too expensive. Being the savvy negotiator he is, Rajiv convinced the seller to lower the price by promising to buy three flats. "Kapil and I would buy one each, and we would find someone to buy the third. The seller agreed to reduce the price to Rs 54 lakh, but I managed to bring it down further to Rs 45 lakh by promising to buy three flats," he explained.

However, after spending an hour and a half traveling back to Andheri, Rajiv and Kapil realized that Malad was not the place for them. "By the time we were returning, we decided that we are never going back there," Rajiv said with a laugh.

As they continued to save, their financial situation improved, and they eventually accumulated Rs 70 lakh. However, by that time, flat prices in Andheri had risen to Rs 90 lakh. "We were so poor at that time that we didn’t even know that home loans were a thing. It never occurred to us that we could get a loan," Rajiv admitted.

Despite their immense success in comedy, Rajiv and Kapil’s story is a reminder that financial struggles are a reality for everyone, regardless of their professional achievements. Sometimes, even the simplest solutions, like applying for a home loan, can be easily overlooked in the face of overwhelming challenges.

This experience highlights the importance of persistence and the reality that even in the glamorous world of entertainment, life is not always easy. Rajiv and Kapil's journey to homeownership serves as a relatable reminder that financial hurdles are something many people face, no matter where they are in their careers.
