At least 4 dead, over 100 injured as Northeast Express train derails in Bihar’s Buxar
At least four people were killed and over 100 others injured after five coaches of the Northeast Express train derailed Buxar district of Bihar on Wednesday night. The accident took place near the Raghunathpur station. Rescue teams have arrived on the spot and the operation is underway.
Train no – 12506 was en route to the Kamakhya Junction in Guwahati from Delhi Anand Vihar railway station when five of its coaches derailed at around 9.35 pm near Buxar. Visuals from the spot showed coaches of the train toppled on the track as people scrambled around to help the passengers.
Rescue work on at war footing
A medical team along with railway and disaster management officials has reached the accident site. The injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals, while other medical establishments in the area have been put on alert. Union Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the rescue operation is underway at war footing at the Buxar derailment site.
“NDRF, SDRF, District administration, Railway officials, and local residents are all working as one team. Injured shifted to hospital. War room operating,” he said.
Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav said he has spoken to the health, disaster management and district officials and asked to reach the sport as soon as possible and that the state government is actively engaged in rescue and relief operations. Bihar police and SDRF personnel have also been stationed there.
“Our priority is to save the lives of as many people as possible. We have also issued helpline numbers. Bihar government is actively engaged in rescue, relief and treatment work for the victims and injured of the train accident,” he said in a video message.
Union Minister and Buxar MP Ashwini Kumar Choubey told ANI he is aware of the derailing incident near Buxar and asked the NDRF DG to rush to the spot. He said the Bihar chief secretary, district magistrate and the regional railway GM have also been asked to reach the accident site and asked his party workers to assist in the rescue and relief operations.
