Berhampur, 21/9 (Abhijit Kar): A state-of-the-art sales center of 8500 square feet area with all the facilities for the customers has been constructed in the local Ankuli industrial area of Bayonika, the help of the state government’s manual development scheme. On Friday evening, Odisha State Commerce and Transport and Steel and Mines Minister Hon’ble Bibhuthi Bhushan Jena was the chief guest, Berhampur Municipal Corporation Mayor Mrs. Sanghamitra Dalei, Bayonika President Mr. Prakash Chandra Meher, Bayonika Management Director Ms. Pranthi Chotray, Berhampur Sub District Collector Ms. Dina Dastagir, Local corporator Sabitri Nayak, along with members of the Board of Directors of Bayonika, inaugurated the newly constructed sales center. In this context, Hon’ble Minister Shri Jena expressed his opinion that Odisha State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Association is a state-level top association in the field of sale of handloom garments in Odisha, popularly known as Bayonika.
It creates an opportunity to purchase and sell handicrafts produced by weavers in different areas of Odisha through Primary Fiber Cooperative Societies, Self Help Groups and Handicrafts Entrepreneurs under the administrative control of the Handicrafts, Textiles and Handicrafts Department of the State Government and sell them within the State, outside the State and abroad. Besides, it helps in the economic growth of the weavers by organizing various fairs and exhibitions through the Handicraft Development Scheme of both the State and Central Governments. Therefore, a state-of-the-art sales center with all the facilities for the customers has been built in its own government premises at Brahampur with the help of the state government’s manual development scheme, he said. Similarly, Mrs. Chotray, Director of Bayonika Management, said that now the annual business turnover of Bayonika has exceeded Rs. 2 crores and 265 crores has been set for the current financial year. With the support of both the state and central governments, Bayonika has set a target of 5 crore business transactions in the next 5 years. In terms of business transactions, Bayonika has a sales center of only 500 square feet at Mayuri Tower in Berhampur, which has an average annual turnover of 4 crores, hence the demand for handloom garments in Berhampur.
However, to address this pent-up demand trend, a state-of-the-art sales center has been inaugurated today in the industrial area of Bayonika. The initial annual sales of this sales center has been pegged at Rs 500 crore, which is expected to cross Rs 100 crore in the next 3-5 years, he said. In addition to this, the sales center has available handloom, cotton and tasar garments produced by weavers of all districts of Odisha. A special discount of 10% is being offered with a 20% discount from 21.09.2024 to 28.09.2024 during the opening of this new sales center. On this occasion, Mayor Ms. Dalai expressed her opinion that it was built during the time of our Biju Janata Dal government, and further improvements were thought about it. However, the sales center is said to attract handicraft lovers in Berhampur city as there are now enough parking facilities. The handcrafted loving customers of Berhampur city to step into the newly constructed sales center and take advantage of the special discounts.
