Odisha Youth Who Chopped Bengaluru Woman Into 50 Pieces Dies by Suicide
Bhubaneswar: In a significant development, the suspected killer of 26-year-old Mahalaxmi, a Bengaluru-based woman whose body was dismembered and stored in a fridge, reportedly died by suicide in Odisha today.
The suspect, Mukti Ranjan Roy (30), who was Mahalaxmi’s colleague, was found hanging from a tree in Kuleipada village, Bhadrak district. Mukti Ranjan, a resident of Bhuinpur village, had been working at a private company in Bengaluru. According to police sources, he returned home the previous day and left early this morning, Later, he was found hanging from a tree at Kuleipada. His scooter and laptop were found near the tree,” police sources said.
Roy had disappeared following the gruesome murder in Bengaluru. The Karnataka Police, who had deployed four teams to track him in Odisha, had been actively pursuing his whereabouts. Both the Karnataka Home Minister and Bengaluru Police Commissioner had indicated that the accused was on the run.
Mukti Ranjan, who had stopped showing up at work from September 1, is believed to have killed Mahalaxmi around September 2 or 3. The horrific case surfaced when her neighbors reported a foul odor, leading to the discovery of her dismembered body.
Mahalaxmi, originally from Tripura, had been living alone in Bengaluru for five months. She was married and had a child but was separated from her husband.
