Centre Approves ₹1,000 Crore for Disaster Mitigation Projects Across 15 States
The central government has sanctioned ₹1,000 crore for disaster mitigation and capacity-building projects across 15 states to enhance preparedness against natural calamities.
State-Wise Allocation:
- Uttarakhand & Himachal Pradesh: ₹139 crore each
- Maharashtra: ₹100 crore
- Karnataka & Kerala: ₹72 crore each
- Tamil Nadu & West Bengal: ₹50 crore each
- Northeastern States: ₹378 crore (Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura)
Key Projects:
- Landslide Risk Mitigation: Funding for projects in 15 states under the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF).
- Training of Civil Defence Volunteers: ₹115.67 crore allocated for training in all states and UTs using the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).
- Urban Flood Risk Mitigation: Projects in seven cities worth ₹3,075.65 crore.
- Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) Risk Management: Projects in four states with an outlay of ₹150 crore.
Government's Commitment:
The initiatives align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a disaster-resilient India, focusing on reducing loss of life and property through a strengthened disaster risk reduction system.
Funds Released in 2024: Over ₹21,476 crore disbursed to states, including ₹14,878.40 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and ₹4,637.66 crore from the NDRF.
These measures aim to bolster India's disaster management capabilities and ensure better preparedness for natural calamities.
