Ganjam Cricket League to be held at 4 venues in IPL format
• Semi-final and final matches to be held in Berhampur Stadium
BERHAMPUR, 18/11 (Abhijit Kar): A press conference was held by the Ganjam Cricket League Association on Sunday evening at a Private Hotel conference room at the local old bus stand. In this, the association's vice-chairman and Berhampur MLA K Anil Kumar, Secretary Chitrasen Ghosh, joint secretary Hemant Kumar Maharana, Vivekananda Patnaik, organizing committee member Subhajeet Kumar were present and informed that the Ganjam Cricket League will be auctioned on the 22nd and its inaugural match will be held in Khallikote on December 6.
The first phase will be held at the RCM College Stadium in Khallikote, while the second phase will be held at four major venues, namely Chhatrapur Stadium, Pattapur College Stadium and finally Berhampur Stadium, it was said in the conference. Eight teams will participate in this, namely, Aska Usters, Sorada Smashers, Rushikulya Rangers, Ganjam Tigers, Pattapur Royals, Khallikote Wizards, Berhampur Bulls, Chhatrapur Warriors. While the major teams are going to participate, no cricketer of the district below the age of 16 years will be able to take part in this league.
While it is planned to have four foreign players and four players from other states in each team, the Secretary Mr. Ghosh said that this Ganjam Cricket League competition will be held in a kind of IPL format. He also said that while all the other competitions will be held at the designated sports grounds, only two competitions, namely the semi-final and the final match, will be held at the Mahatma Gandhi Stadium in Berhampur. In this regard, the logo of the league was unveiled by the members and workers present today. Among others, the chairman of this cricket league is Khallikote MLA Purna Chandra Sethi, vice-chairman and Sankhemundi constituency MLA Ramesh Chandra Jena, Chhatrapur MLA Krishna Chandra Nayak, treasurer Pradeepta Kumar Patnaik,
legal advisors Ansuman Sethi and Tapas Acharya, Ashok Sahu and Subhrajit Kumar are the organizing committee members and T. Shivananda Verma, Rajnikanth Reddy, Rajesh Kumar Patra are the executive members. It is reported that while Ranji cricketers from West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Bihar are expected to participate in this Event, there is a certain enthusiasm among the players and fans of this cricket league.
