Jharkhand minister Alamgir Alam arrested by ED in money laundering case

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday arrested Jharkhand Rural Development Minister and Congress leader Alamgir Alam in connection with a huge cash recovery from the household help of his Personal Secretary Sanjeev Lal.

ED arrested Alam after questioning him for over nine hours at the Enforcement Directorate office in Ranchi On Tuesday which continued on Wednesday.

The investigating agency is probing a money laundering case linked to the seizure of over Rs 34 crore cash recovered from a flat linked to his secretary and the latter’s house help.

Last week investigating agency recovered over Rs 32 crore from a house in Ranchi occupied by Jehangir Alam, the house help of the minister’s Personal Secretary Sanjiv Lalthere and an additional over Rs 3 crore from other premises. Ed has arrested Lal and Jehangir Alam under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and are currently in ED’s custody.
