Madhya Pradesh: Man mauled to death by tiger in Raisen forest near Bhopal

New Delhi: Panic gripped the area after a man was fatally attacked by a tiger in Raisen forest near Bhopal on Thursday. This marks the first recorded incident of a tiger mauling a human to death in the Bhopal Forest Circle. The Forest Department has set up five teams, consisting of 40 personnel, which are trying to track down the big cat with the help of 30 cameras, TV9 Bharatvarsh reported. Movement of two tigers has been also been found in the area where the incident took place. The five teams have also spotted pugmarks in the forest.

There are reportedly around 63 tigers in the surrounding areas of Bhopal city. And the incident of tiger attack has sent shockwaves across the region. The Forest Department has sounded a stern warning to the people to avoid entering the forest in the wake of the fatal attack.

He had gone out to collect tendu leaves

The deceased has been identified as Maniram, a resident of Neemkheda. He was fatally attacked by the tiger when he was out plucking tendu leaves on Thursday morning. When he did not return home for a long time, his family members went out looking for him and found his mutilated body in the forest.

Ranger Pravesh Patidar, who is leading the five teams, said that 30 cameras have been installed to spot the tiger. He added that the tiger is not old enough to become a maneater. “Right now, we aim to trace the tiger and then follow orders from the Bhopal Headquarters. We have barred villagers from entering the jungles,” he said. The villagers said they often go to collect tendu leaves from the forest, but the incident has left them in shock and fear.
