AAP withdraws plea seeking allotment of land for its offices in national capital from Supreme Court

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday withdrew its plea from the Supreme Court seeking allotment of land in the national capital for construction of its offices after being recognised as a national party.

Apex Court allowed AAP’s request to withdraw plea

Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, who appeared for AAP, submitted before a bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra that the matter is being heard by a single bench of the Delhi High Court and sought the permission of the top court to withdraw the plea and liberty to approach the top court after the High Court pronounces its verdict on the matter.

“We permit the withdrawal of the SLP (Special Leave Petition) and in terms of the request made before this court, we grant liberty to the petitioner to adopt appropriate proceedings in accordance with law, in the event the petitioner is aggrieved by the ultimate outcome of the proceedings before the High Court,” the top court said in its order, news agency PTI reported.

What has AAP sought in its plea before High Court?

AAP has sought in its plea before the High Court a direction to the Centre to take necessary steps as per the law to allot it a suitable piece of land free from encumbrances and encroachments preferably in centrally-located area of Delhi at the earliest for construction of its national and Delhi state units offices.

AAP seeks quashing of Centre’s letters rejecting its request for allotment of land

The plea filed by the AAP before the High Court also seeks quashing of the June 26 and September 15 letters of the Centre rejecting its request for allotment of land on the ground that no vacant land was available on Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg or other centrally-located areas of the national capital for allotment.

Entitled for allotment of land being a national party: AAP

The AAP has said in its plea before the High Court that being a national party, it is entitled for allotment of a total area of 1,000 square metres of land for construction of offices for its national and Delhi units in the national capital in view of the policies issued by the Centre.
