Rajkummar Rao Loses Film to Star Kid Overnight, Says ‘I Felt Victimised…’

The discussion around nepotism has only heated up in the last few years. Numerous actors have discussed the difficulties they face as outsiders and the limited chances that result from nepotism. The continual reminder of their title also bothered many. Rajkummar Rao recently spoke on similar lines wherein he was replaced in a movie overnight. With roles in movies like Shahid, Bheed, and Bareilly Ki Barfi, the actor has certainly come a long way. Rao talked about how he felt that things weren’t fair after losing a movie to a star kid.

Speaking on the nepotism controversy, Karan stated, “Sometimes they are using it as a toll to make headlines. Immensely successful people are saying, ‘Oh I felt victimised like an outsider and lost the opportunity to a star kid.’ Somebody is saying, ‘I didn’t attend a party so I didn’t get a role.’ I don’t know at which party there has been transactions for films.” Rajkummar Rao had a lighthearted chat with producer Karan Johar and co-star Janhvi Kapoor before the premiere of ‘Mr and Mrs Mahi.’ The entire interview is available on Dharma Productions’ YouTube channel.

Rajkummar Rao shared one incident about losing a project to a star kid. He said, “When I came to Mumbai, even I was told that ‘you have to attend parties.’ Making contacts is not a problem, but going to a party and say, ‘Hi I am here to make contact.’ But having said that, I was supposed to do a film, but then suddenly I was not in that film overnight. Somebody who is known and happened to be a star kid got that part. In my mind, I think it was not fair.”

Rajkummar Rao continued by revealing that the movie he was discussing was never made.

Rajkummar Rao is enjoying his current success with the release of Srikanth. In the movie, he portrays the vision-handicapped businessman Srikanth Bolla. The inspirational tale has been performing well at the box office since its release on May 10th, 2024. Actors like Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar lauded Rao for his phenomenal performance. Latter also suggested that the ‘Roohi‘ actor should take up acting classes.
