Rajkot gaming zone fire: Manager, owner detained; SIT to submit report within 72 hours

New Delhi: The Rajkot Police have detained three more persons after a devastating fire, that ripped through a gaming zone, claimed at least 28 lives. Nitin Jain, the manager of the TRP Game Zone, and Yuvraj Singh Solanki, the owner of the game zone, were reportedly among the three detained. Those killed include nine children.

The reason behind the massive blaze is yet to be ascertained.

A probe has been launched into the incident. A Special Investigation Team (SIT), consisting five officers, is investigating the matter. The team is being led by senior IPS officer Subhash Trivedi and has been asked to submit a report within 72 hours.

The TRP Game Zone was buzzing with people and enjoying a summer vacation outing when the fire broke out. Following the blaze, four fire brigades were rushed to the site to douse the inferno and a rescue operation was undertaken.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the accident site at Nana-Mava road on Sunday morning. He also visited a hospital where the injured are undergoing treatment.

“Instructions have been given to the Municipal Corporation and the administration for immediate rescue and relief operations in the fire incident in the game zone in Rajkot,” Bhupendra Patel said in a tweet.

Patel announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to families of those killed in the incident and Rs 50,000 to those injured.

DNA samples collected

Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Vinayak Patel said that DNA samples have been collected for identification of the bodies of the victims. “The bodies are charred beyond recognition, and we have completed the process of collecting the DNA samples of the bodies and the relatives who have claimed them so that the identity of the deceased can be established,” he reportedly said.

Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya pointed out that 30 ICU beds have been prepared in AIIMS Rajkot to provide treatment to those injured in the fire.

Earlier, Gujarat home minister Harsh Sanghvi took stock of the situation and said that one person is still missing after the tragic incident. He said that the priority is to find the missing person.
