Mishap averted as BSF jawans recover IED in Odisha’s Malkangiri

In a timely intervention, BSF jawans recovered an improvised explosive device (IED) near the Charkondal canal bridge in the Kalimela police limits of Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Thursday. The IED, wrapped in plastic and buried near a tree, weighed approximately 1.5 kg and was accompanied by an electric detonator and wire.

A bomb disposal squad was called in to safely neutralize the device. This area has been a known hideout for Maoists, who have been planting IEDs to target security forces.

The BSF maintains a robust presence in Malkangiri to enhance security, and the recovery of this IED is seen as a significant blow to Maoist operations, likely undermining their support in the region and boosting the morale of security personnel. Following the seizure, ongoing search operations are being conducted to ensure safety in the area.
