IMD Issues Rainfall Warning for Odisha as Low-Pressure Area Forms Over Bay of Bengal

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rainfall alert for Odisha due to the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.

According to the IMD, the low-pressure system developed under the influence of cyclonic circulation over the Central Bay of Bengal. This system has formed over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of the Northwest Bay off the coasts of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha. The cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above sea level, with a southwestward tilt as it rises.

As a result, several districts in Odisha are expected to experience heavy rainfall.

Here is the district-wise weather forecast for Odisha:

September 24: Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) are very likely to affect isolated areas in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

Additionally, thunderstorms with lightning are expected at isolated locations in Nuapada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Rayagada.

September 25: Thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) are likely to occur in isolated places within Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Bargarh.

September 26: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) is expected at isolated locations in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Jajpur.
