BJP’s new J&K MLAs receive warm welcome at party headquarters in Jammu

The BJP’s 29 MLAs, the highest number ever for the party in Jammu and Kashmir, were formally welcomed at the party headquarters on Monday. BJP’s J&K President, Ravinder Raina, expressed gratitude to the people of Jammu division for supporting the party. He attributed the success to the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP President J.P. Nadda.

Raina announced that a legislative party meeting, with central observers Prahlad Joshi and Tarun Chugh, would determine the next steps. Among the frontrunners for BJP’s legislative party leader are Sunil Kumar Sharma and Devinder Rana.

In the 90-member J&K Assembly, the NC holds 42 seats, BJP 29, Congress six, PDP three, CPI-M one, Peoples Conference and AAP one each, with seven Independents. The Lt Governor can nominate five additional MLAs. With the NC staking its claim to form the government, the swearing-in of an Omar Abdullah-led government is expected on Wednesday.
