Sahibganj: Craze of social media turned fatal for a teenager who died after he allegedly jumped into deep water from a height of about 100 feet to make a viral Instagram reel in Jharkhand’s Sahibganj district, police said on Tuesday. The deceased, identified as 18-year-old Tausif, jumped into a quarry lake on Monday.

According to police, the incident took place on Monday evening when the teen jumped into the water while trying to make a reel. Tausif’s friends who were also present there when the incident took place tried to rescue him but were unsuccessful. They informed locals and police about the incident following which a search operation was launched. The youth’s body was recovered later.

A video of the incident has surfaced on social media showing the youth jumping into the lake from a 100-foot height as his friends record the stunt. He later drowned. Deputy Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar Kushwaha said that the youth jumped into the lake presuming that it was not deep and drowned.
