MP Nursing College ‘scam’: CBI inspector sacked for taking bribe, DSP among 3 suspended

New Delhi: A CBI inspector, Rahul Raj, who was arrested in connection with the Madhya Pradesh Nursing College bribery case, has been terminated from the services. Inspector Raj was caught red-handed by the CBI while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh to give clean chit to “unsuitable” nursing colleges affiliated with the Nursing Council of Madhya Pradesh. The deputy superintendent of police and two inspectors have also been suspended in connection with the case.

On Monday night, the CBI arrested 13 people, including two of its own inspectors, in connection with the scam. All the accused arrested have been remanded to CBI custody till May 29.

In the FIR filed by the Delhi CBI vigilance team, the agency has named four officers, deputy superintendent of police Ashish Prasad, inspector Rahul Raj and two inspectors of MP police – Rishikant Asathe and Sushil Kumar, who were on deputation in the CBI, with 19 others for accepting bribe of Rs 2 lakh to Rs 10 lakh to give a positive report regarding facilities, infrastructure and faculties at nursing colleges, according to a Hindustan Times report.

‘Zero tolerance towards corruption’

Following its policy of ‘zero tolerance towards corruption’, the agency sacked Raj under Article 311 of the Constitution that allows termination of services of government employees, the CBI officials were quoted as saying by PTI.

The vigilance team cracked down on the tainted officers after collecting details for the last three months. The Madhya Pradesh High Court had ordered for carrying out state-wide inspections to find out whether nursing colleges were adhering to the laid down norms and were meeting the standards set for infrastructural facilities and faculty.

The probe agency had inspected 308 nursing colleges out of the total 364. During investigation, the CBI found 169 colleges suitable to run the nursing course, 74 colleges deficient with minimal problems, which can be rectified and the remaining 65 colleges were found unsuitable to run nursing courses, the HT report added.
