PM Modi interacts with 5,000 women in Varanasi: ‘I have come here to seek blessings’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed Nari Shakti Vandan – Abhinandan Karyakram in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi where he interacted with 5,000 women. The 73-year-old leader said that came to the city to seek blessings after the successful passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament.

While mentioning that Kashi is the hometown of Rani Lakshmibai, PM Modi stated that the nation has witnessed the remarkable capabilities of women, from Rani Lakshmibai’s important role in the freedom struggle to women scientists leading Mission Chandrayaan.

The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (Women’s Reservation Bill) has increased the excitement for Navratri and it is expected to open up new avenues of development for women, he added.

He further said that the Women’s Reservation Bill was delayed for almost thirty years but, this time, the Bill was supported in both Houses because of you (women) by many parties who always opposed it.

PM Modi also said, “During the BJP’s tenure, 75,000 ‘pukka’ houses have been provided through the PM Awas Yojana in Varanasi. A significant portion of these homes is registered in the names of women. Traditionally, property used to be registered in the name of men, but the BJP initiated a practice of registering it in the name of women. In Kashi, numerous women now own homes, which has elevated their position in society. Our daughters are excelling in various fields, from sports to piloting Rafale aircraft.”

Flower petals showered on PM Modi

During the event, women showered flower petals on him to celebrate Parliament’s approval of the women’s reservation bill. The gathering took place at the grounds of Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accompanied Modi to the event.

PM Modi reached the venue after laying the foundation stone for an international cricket stadium in Varanasi.

Modi is currently serving his second consecutive term as the Member of Parliament representing Varanasi in the Lok Sabha.
