Pune Porsche accident: Court remand juvenile’s father, 2 employees of pub to police custody till May 24

Pune: A sessions court here on Wednesday remanded the father of a 17-year-old juvenile, who allegedly hit a motorcycle killing a man and a woman while driving his Porsche car at high speed after consuming alcohol, to police custody till May 24.

Additional Sessions Judge SP Ponkshe also sent two employees of a city pub to police custody till May 24.

Juvenile’s father, two pub employees were produced before court

The juvenile’s father, a real estate developer, and two employees of the Black Club pub – Nitesh Shevani and Jayesh Gavkar were produced before the court on Wednesday after they were arrested by the Pune Police on Tuesday in connection with the accident case.

Prosecution sought seven-day police custody

The prosecution sought seven-day police custody of the father of the juvenile and two employees of the pub, submitting that the police wanted to investigate that why the father allowed his juvenile son to drive the car which did not have a number plate and why he absconded after a case was registered against his son.

The prosecution also said that the juvenile boy had in his possession a simple no-frills mobile phone when he was arrested and the police need to investigate where are his other mobile phones, news agency PTI reported.

The prosecution, while seeking police custody of pub employee Gavkar, said that police wanted to find out that against whose membership the juvenile and his friends were given entry.

The prosecution claimed before the court that the driver of the Porsche was with the juvenile at the time of the accident and he had offered to drive, however, the boy refused to accept his offer to drive the Porsche.

A man and a woman (both 24-year-old) were returning from a party on a motorbike and were killed in an accident after their motorbike was allegedly hit by the speeding Porsche allegedly driven by the juvenile at Kalyani Nagar junction around 3.15 am on Sunday.

Juvenile was granted bail by JBB with conditions like writing 300-word essay on road accident

The juvenile was granted bail by the Juvenile Justice Board (JBB) with conditions that his parents shall take care of him and he will never get involved in offences in future, he will visit the Regional Transport Office and study traffic rules and submit a presentation to the board within 15 days and he will write an essay of 300 words on the topic of road accidents and their solutions.

The Pune police later had approached a sessions court challenging the bail granted to the juvenile and sought permission to allow police to treat the body as an adult saying the crime committed was “heinous”, however, the sessions court asked the police to approach the JJB with a plea to review the order.

Pune Police registered an FIR and arrested juvenile’s father

The Pune Police later arrested the father of the juvenile after registering a case against the father of the juvenile under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act, and against the owner and employees of two bars which the juvenile had visited before the accident for serving alcohol to an underage person.’

As per the FIR, the father of the juvenile gave his son the car despite knowing that the juvenile did not have a driving license, and thus endangering his life, and allowed him to party even while knowing that he consumes alcohol.
