Sikkim Flash Floods: Body of Odia Jawan Saroj Das found

Odia Army jawan Saroj Kumar Dash, who was  among the 23 Army personnel who went missing in a flash-flood in Sikkim yesterday, martyred, sources said on Thursday. According to sources, Saroj’ s body has been recovered and his family members have identified the body through video call. A resident of Kendudhipa village under the Kamakhyanagar block in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district, Saroj was posted as a havildar in the Indian Army.

He was recruited in the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) wing of the Indian army in 2012, sources said. A pall of gloom has descended in Dhenkanal district following the demise of the jawan . Notably, a cloud burst over Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim resulted in a flash flood in the Teesta River in Lachen Valley yesterday. The Sikkim Government on Wednesday confirmed that 14 people have died so far in the flash floods that occurred in the State in the early hours of Wednesday. The search and rescue operation by the Army is currently underway to trace the remaining soldiers.
