This year 6,068 dengue cases detected in Odisha: Minister

This year dengue cases are up in Odisha. But the state government is trying its best to counter the challenge. In 2023, till September 14, as many as 6,068 positive cases have been detected in the state.

This statistics was shared by Health Minister Niranjan Pujari in the Odisha Assembly on Monday. He was replying to a query by MLA Mohd Moquim.

 Pujari further stated that the government has earmarked 40 sentinel sites in the state to check the spread of the vector-borne disease. He also informed that Odisha government has roped in 49,000 trained ASHA to spread awareness among people. 

The Health Minister also informed that 190 volunteers have been appointed in five Municipal corporations to spread awareness about the disease. 

The state government has also set up special dengue wards in all district headquarters hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals, CHCs for the patients. But private hospitals has also been asked to send blood samples to sentinel sites for examinations, Pujari added.

The minister further informed that sufficient blood and platelets have been stored at blood banks for the transfusion if required.
