UP: Monkeys ‘devour’ sugar worth Rs 30 lakh, Officials to pay from their pockets for the loss

Aligarh: After rats ‘drank’ liquor scam at a police station in Uttar Pradesh, a new bizarre incident has been reported from the state where in it is alleged that the monkeys consumed sugar worth Rs 35 lakh from the Cooperative Sugar Mills Limited in Aligarh.

The matter came to light after the incident has been revealed in the cooperative society’s audit report in which officials mentioned the monkey’s consumption of the sugar. Senior officials have said the loss would be recovered from the officials who mentioned the said thing.

Some days back, a stock audit was conducted at cooperative society by district audit officer and other concerned officials which some what pointed to a scam.

Reports suggest that the stock from April 1 to October 28, 2023 was up to date. In February 2024,
the sugar stock was 1538.37 quintals which declined to 401.37 quintals in March.
As per the audit report, 1137 quintals of sugar was lost due monkeys as well as rain. Apart from this, the stock for March was not found at all. Six people including the manager, accountant have been found responsible for the decline in the stock. Official said the loss would be recovered from the concerned officials. The final report in this regard has been sent to the Sugarcane Commissioner.

Vinod Kumar Singh, Assistant Audit Officer of Cooperative Societies, in his report estimated a loss of Rs 35.24 lakh to the organisation. The report found Chief Manager Rahul Yadav, Chief Accountant Omprakash, Manager Chemicals Vinod MK Sharma, Accountant Mahipal Singh, Security Officer Dalveer Singh, Warehouse keeper Gulab Singh, responsible for the loss. The report has also been sent to Sugarcane Commissioner, Deputy Director, Sugar Mill Association, in Lucknow.
