Madras High Court Issues ‘Temporary Ban’ on Suchitra Ramadurai For Commenting on Ex-Husband Kartik Kumar’s Sexuality
Chennai: In a recent interview, Tamil singer and songwriter Suchitra Ramadurai sparked controversy with accusations against several big names in the industry, including her former husband Karthik Kumar, actors Dhanush and Aishwarya Rajinikanth, and others. Suchitra, a former radio personality, embroiled in the past for leaking private photos of celebrities (Suchi Leaks Controversy), has been accused of making defamatory remarks about her ex-husband.
She allegedly called him homophobic slurs and implied ‘gay’ activity with actor Dhanush. Ex-husband and comedian and actor Kartik Kumar has responded publicly, denying the claims, and filed a defamation lawsuit seeking significant compensation (one crore rupees). In a recent development, the Madras High Court has heard the case and placed a temporary restriction on the singer’s actions related to the case. Read on.
Madras HC Issues Interim Order To Suchitra
On May 24th, the Madras High Court issued a temporary order in a defamation case filed by actor Karthik Kumar against his ex-wife Suchitra Ramadurai. Justice P.B. Balaji, presiding over the case, restricted Suchitra from making any public statements about Karthik or his family.
Karthik accused Suchitra’s remarks on two Tamil YouTube channels of being defamatory and damaging to his and his family’s reputation. He is seeking compensation of one crore rupees in damages.
In a recent interview on YouTube channels Kumudham and Reflect Talks, Suchitra made controversial statements about her former spouse Karthik Kumar, and several celebrities. She targeted Kumar’s sexuality, alleging he is gay and insinuating inappropriate relations with actor Dhanush. Ramadurai also criticised the choices of other celebrities, including actors Kamal Haasan, Andrea Jeremiah, Trisha, and Dhanush’s wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. She suggested Karthik Kumar’s current wife Amrutha Srinivasan made a poor decision in marrying him.
Karthik Kumar took to social media to address allegations about his sexuality. In the video, he asserted that he wouldn’t be ashamed if he were gay. He emphasized his support for the LGBTQIA+ community by stating that there’s no shame in any sexuality and that pride is the way to go. The video unsurprisingly gained widespread attention online.
